Reviews about The Sculptured Egg
- 1 / 5By Lisa CurtisBOYCOTT SCULPTURED EGG! On Sunday, Kristie & I went out for b'fast. I always have Norm with me, in his vest, with his ADA cards at the ready. Upon entering the restaurant, the owner, Jeffrey Richardson, said, "The dog can't come in." I explained that he was a service animal, fully complaint with ADAAA standards, etc. He said, "I hate animals and won't have them in my restaurant! I don't CARE about the law! Get the dog out of here!" I told him that he was in violation of a federal law and would be subject to complaint and investigation. He said, "Bring it on!" with a smirk and a laugh. His wife, Marlene, waived, "Bye-bye," with a smile. I was so saddened by this cruelty, not just the denial of the rights of people with disabilities, but the meanness with which the message was delivered. I have eaten at Sculptured Egg for over 30 years and enjoyed it. The owner was always very curmudgeonly but the food was great. I will NEVER eat there again. Please share this message and boycott this place. I am filing a formal complaint with the Office of Civil Rights in the hope of protecting people who need their service animals in order to live. He has been a godsend in my life and I know and work with many others who feel the same about their support animals. I remain stunned by the negativity of this man's assault. It brought me to tears.September 18, 2016
- 5 / 5By Paul MalarikContrary to the overwhelmingly amazingly biased redundant ageist negative reviews about this place on the net, I had a great experience.
When I was there, there were two older couples who absolutely loved the food & the ambiance. One was a local elderly couple who likely were regulars & the other couple were on a likely post-retirement outing from Nor-Cal.
Based on the reviews, I knew that with a good attitude, I could have a good experience here. I also happen to share some of the same beliefs as the owners here. I had the attitude that I was a guest here & they likewise treated me with respect & great friendly service.
I spoke at length with both the owners, who are a great no- BS mature couple. They have integrity. People who wish to have everything done their way need not apply. Too many complex modifications to their carefully crafted creations would give me a headache too...so I do empathize with that. I also cannot stand adding too much crap to a great egg creation...let alone crappy ketchup.
Since I was raised in a conservative Slovak -Lutheran culture in NYC, I adopted the attitude that I was in one of my "Baba's" houses. As a kid,
I never asked for anything other than what my Aunts feed me....and I tell you...those were amazing farm fresh grand meals.
Here, you get the whole Farm-to-Table theme along with slow & careful crafting of a unique Sculptured Egg dish...all without the BS & SF / NYC pretentiousness. While you wait, you can see & hear Marlene or Jeff beating the egg whites with an old school electric beater...until they are light & fluffy. They then go into the oven to bake with all the other ingredients to form this one-of-a-kind dish. It is simply delish!
I observed the care & compassion that Marlene showed with both couples. One older gentleman, needed help with his walker & both Marlene & I helped. She helped walk that couple to their car. While she was busy, I had a nice conversation with Jeff, the lone Chef & co-owner.
He was super-nice & we had a nice talk about the area, since I am a local too.
I really object to some of the many faceless cowardly reviewers who
have defamed these nice people. I saw no evidence that they either "ate children" nor are like "Nazi's", or like a "Witch". They are hardworking mature real people who actually have "personalities" & their own opinions.
Many people seek out culinary experiences in places where they do their own thing (e.g. SF Chinese Dim Sum places)& they are often far more tolerant when other cultures do not cater to our Western whims.
People in NYC tolerate the cold, rudeness, & multi-hour long lines to maybe get a crappy greasy Kronut...before they sell out...but some of the same hypocrites cannot be polite, compassionate, nor tolerant to other situations.
If you want a place that spoils your every whim, either stay in & eat a box of cereal...or go to a fine dining hotel restaurant....where even there,
you need to be a bit civil.
Anyway, if you desire a unique well crafted Egg dish like I do, come here! At home, I can Sou Vide my eggs, make great pouched eggs, but
I cannot do the magic that Jeff & Marlene does!
Thanks Jeff & Marlene!July 01, 2016
